Peachtree Farmstead Field Notes - April 2020

Spring has sprung on Peachtree Farmstead, as we embark upon the real beginning of the farming season. In many ways it feels like the world has gone into hibernation. But the longer, warmer days know nothing of this limitation and the landscape begins to stretch itself out of its dormancy, signaled by more green, blossoms, and birds each day.
Life on a small farm does not look much different than it did before, despite the great change all around us. The work continues, and I feel incredibly grateful to have it.
We have had the chance to get some big projects checked off the list. One such upgrade was to the hoop house, where we start seeds and grow year-round in raised beds. The weather-worn, hail-torn outer shell was replaced, and the addition of sturdy wood end walls make it ready for anything the temperamental Colorado spring will throw at us. Now it is filled with trays of emerging seedlings that will eventually make their way into the ground. The beds have a variety of greens, spinach, radishes, turnips, and carrots. Each day it seems like something new has popped out of the ground in different areas of the farm; the tops of garlic, onions, and chives, flowers, and tiny strawberry leaves... small reminders that life continues to evolve, and that brighter days are ahead!
